scrap giveaway

First off, THANK YOU for all your kind comments about my scrap vortex quilt! Since there were so many questions about the construction, I thought I would answer those here. I used the slab technique, as found in Sunday Morning Quilts. I made several irregular sized slabs and joined them together like a puzzle. It takes a lot of rearranging and tweaking as you go, but it's so worth it! Just keep making slabs and joining them together until the quilt is as large as you want. And to answer another question that came up several times, YES, I still have scraps left. Always, always, always!
Since scraps are the subject of the day (and every day...ha ha!), I have this pile of Denyse Schmidt Ansonia scraps to give away. The fabric isn't due to release until first quarter of 2014, according to the free spirit website. I have these leftover from making the scrap happy purse that I sewed up for market. (Pattern is available here.) I have a small priority mail box FULL of scraps, ready to mail. (International entries welcome, as long as you are willing to pay the shipping overages if sent outside the US.) Please leave a comment on this post to be entered in the draw. The question of the day? If you could take a workshop from anyone, who would it be? Vicky asked me that question at retreat a few weeks ago and I thought that was a great question! I think it would be amazing to learn from Gwen Marston. A few more things...one comment per person, please. I'll pick a winner sometime on Wednesday. Phew! I think that's all.

Happy Monday to you!

Hands down, BONNIE HUNTER!!!!! I love her use of scraps and using the leaders and enders technique. Her quilting books are my bedtime reading! Easy question. :)

Probably Angela Walters. Her quilting is so beautiful and I'm just learning to branch out a little more.

I LOVE this quilt-- maybe my favorite of all the ones you've shared with us. The scraps look truly tiny. What are the sizes of your scraps here?

There are so many great people out there I could name! It's too hard to pick one! Kaffe Fassett and Jen Kingwell would be amazing to work with!

There are not many opportunities to take a quilting class near me, and I love all the quilts you make; so if given the chance I would take a class from you:)

Betty said...

Someone who can teach me to overcome ME in quilting, like Trudi from http://trudi-quiltingprolifically.blogspot.nl/
And next summer I hope to meet her again in London and perhaps she'll give a workshop!!

I don't know who I would want to take a class from. I am so intimidated by all the talent out there. I do like the concept of 15 minutes of play so maybe Victoria Findlay Wolfe.

LOVE that close up pic with the polka dots!!! I would love to take a class with Katy Jones (I'm a Ginger Monkey blog). She is fearless with her use of color--I need a litte of that fearlessness! Of course, if you are offering to come to Maine and do a retreat I'M IN!!!

Angela Walters - like the look of her quilts. But I would take a class from anyone the local quilt shop brings in for a workshop.

I'd always wanted to talk a class with Edyta Sitar and recently had that pleasure. Now I'm not sure who would be next on my list. Love the material.

Amy Smart from Diary of a Quilter. she just seems so down to earth.

Gwen Marston is fabulous!! And she has a new book out next year that looks interesting!

Hmmmm.... I would love to take a class from Freddy Moran, or Denyse Schmidt, or Ruth McDowell.

I'm seeing all of the other responses and all the names would be fabulous, but Camille Roskelley would be a great person to learn from. Thanks for the giveaway!

How about you? Also, when I was at Fabric Fest I had to leave before the last class, and I missed Amanda Herring's slippers class. She seems so funny and energetic, so I wish I could have a redo.

I´m so far away..... Heather Ross !! Dreaming...

Thanks!

Love your scrappy slab quilt! I am currently doing a BOM that is for a scrappy quilt. I am taking the scraps from that and making another very scrappy slab technique quilt. It would be great to take a class from Victoria Findlay Wolfe or Bonnie Hunter.

I want to take a joint class with Gwen Marston and Freddy Moran. And in my dreams it would be on Beaver Island. Yeah. Thanks for the chance!

So many people to learn from I have a long list. I've always wanted to learn about how designers design fabric. But I agree about Gwen Marston, wouldn't that be fun. I picked up a book of hers at the library many years ago and it helped me jump into quilting. What I saw in that book was so different from what I saw at my lqs it opened a whole new world.
Thanks for the giveaway. Nothing is more fun than I box full of scraps!

WOW! Many quilters are crazy for those scraps! There are delicious! I'll give it a try too.

As for a quilt teacher, I would love to take a class from
Denyse Schmidt!

I own several of her patterns and love them so! My alternative teacher would be to study under Elly Sienkiewicz to learn more techniques for Baltimore Album quilts.

Thanks for offering this fun give away!!

Such a beautiful quilt. I would love to take a workshop from Anna Maria Horner!

Great question! So many talented quilters out there to choose from. I think my choice would be to take a workshop by Claudia Pfeil. Her work just blows me away!

I would take a workshop from Kim Diehl. Her quilts speak to me and I love making them. I'd like to know her techniques. In a tie with Kim is Pat Sloan. I think her workshop would be full of knowledge and a ton of fun!

I'd love to get in a class with Bonnie Hunter. Although she was only about 20 miles away from me in another guild, the class was quickly filled. I did get to attend the trunk show -- nice but I wanted to be in the class. Pouting here .......

Wow, great giveaway. I will take a class from Cindy Needham every day! Wish I could take one today!

Boy, you have so many followers. I think Diane Gaudynski or Alex Anderson. Hope I am not too late for the drawing. Thank you

Hooray for scraps. I am new to quilting but already love the mix of so many great fabrics on the market these days. I know it is late Wednesday but just maybe you too have been too busy too with "Turkey Day' to get around to choosing a winner of the box of scraps. There are so many talented folks out there who enjoy teaching and share their expertise so freely. Since I have never been to a qorkshop with anyone, I would have to honestly say I would go to one that was somewhat close to home. Not sure anyone has ever come close to Western Wisconsin but I think you are only a few hundred miles away so you would be my first choice-there is so much I want to learn. I would want to take a class by Amanda Jean! I come to this site to see what inspiration she can give to me, and I am NEVER disappointed!

Barb said...

Um, you! You always inspire me, thanks for the chance to win.

If I could take a quilting class it would probably be from Judi Marsden on free motion quitling. She is so amazing with her use of space on the quilt. She makes a whole entire new quilt from her quilting.

Kristin said...

I know I'm too late for the giveaway, but I thought you would be interested to know that it is rumored that Gwen Marston might have some workshops at this year's MQ show.

I would probably choose Jinny Beyer, although Gwen would also be awesome.

Carrie Nelson from Miss Rosie's. I have bought her books and read her blog, and I think she would be a wonderful teacher and a nice person, too. I am not much of a quilter---I love all the color and pattern in modern fabrics, but I am not into patterns that have allot of intricate points that all have to match. I just quilt for fun, so I don't want to get too stressed out over it.
